Bàrbaros is a landmark new multi-disciplinary dance, live sound and visual art/design production from one of Australia’s unique independent dance companies ‘Limosani Projekts’.

Australian choreographer Lina Limosani joined forces with a team of distinguished independent South Australian  artists  to create a highly visceral and poetic stage production that maps a creative voyage through the ambiguous and inescapable relationship between civilisation and barbarism. A deeply psychological work, it examines human hierarchy, violence, and the power dynamics that shift and quake beneath the surface of our civilization. The paradoxical nature of modern humanity, where cultured societies still perform barbaric acts, underpins the performative elements of Bàrbaros

The artistic team push the boundaries of artistic innovation. The intricately-crafted, eclectic, three-dimensional set represents the very veneer of civilization, morphing seamlessly from mountain to podium, to garment, and to weapon, that by the end of this finely-tuned  performance, has become another character, exuding a world of emotion and bearing its own scars.

Live radio microphones are strategically placed on stage within costumes and props to inextricably link movement and action, intensifying the reckless relationship between the characters and their environment.

Director & Choreographer Lina Limosani’s meticulous attention to detail and bracingly original ideas heighten the dynamic choreography and physical prowess of dancers Anton, Jana Castillo and Rowan Rossi. Bodies metamorphose between animal, insect and machine, to move from gracious beauty to elemental force. Bàrbaros guides audiences through a beautifully twisted narrative that unravels the hidden barbarism that dwells within the hearts of the so-called civilized.
